WINDHAM GARDEN CLUB

MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

September 21, 2006

  1. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm at the Windham Town Hall by President Jill Martin.

The Officers present were

President Jill Martin

1st Vice-Pres Josie Cappiello

2nd Vice-Pres Rhonda Peckham

Secretary Su Bennett

The Officer excused was Jean Manthorne, Treasurer

The following people were welcomed:

  2. EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORTS

    1st VICE PRESIDENT:

    Info about Oct Meeting in Section V of Minutes

    Nov Mtg – we will be making a holiday swag – more details to come

    2ND VICE PRESIDENT:

    Our new Yearbook was distributed with a classy black and white picture of a Lady Slipper on the front

    We have about 50 members, with room for about 30 more (maximum 80 members)

    - the additional members need to be from Windham, as we have met our 10% "alien" quota already

    TREASURER: Financial Statements posted

    SECRETARY: Prior meeting Minutes posted on the website + on the bulletin board

    PRESIDENT:

    Welcome Back Letter from President Jill to all WGC Members, on sign-in table

    Jean L. Thompson Scholarship Fund Donantion

    Jean who was the President of NHFGC, passed away this summer.

    Motion: to donate $1 per WGC member to her Scholarship Fund – by Rosemary Pothier

    Seconded: Linda German

    All: Passed

    Joyce Kimball is taking over the President’s duties

    WGC will be starting a Junior Garden Club which will probably meet one-a-month

    More details to follow – Jill is getting info from NHFGC

    Some WGC Committees need help – please sign up – see Jill

    Anniversaries – Jill listed + congratulated the many people who have been members for a long time

    Windham Co-op Kindergarten Scrapbook – 2006 Arthur Baker Award recipient

    - they put it together in appreciation of the WGC grant to support their summer Gardening Camp

    - it was displayed on the table – take a look - it’s delightful

    - they used the 4" pots that WCG collects at recycling day, but can not use at the Plant Sale

    - Margaret informed us they will be moving to a new building on Roulston Rd and need help

    laying out the landscape, Lisa Errede + Linda German volunteered

  3. OPEN TO THE FLOOR

    HORTICULTURE COMMITTEE – Cookie Santerre

    - 12 members on the committee

    - What’s New in Gardening?

    Cookie asked if the club wanted the committee to research + do this again for the Jan 07 meeting

    – Yes, was the response

    - June 06 meeting – container gardens – Fill, Spill, and Thrill –open to the club

    was a big success + enjoyed by all who came – in the rain

    PLANT SALE – UPDATE – Lisa Errede + Jill Martin

    - We have the Parking Lot for this year’s Plant Sale – Jill spoke to Dave Sullivan

    - Jill bought two 10x20 canopies (on sale ) to use instead of renting them

    - Please sign up for tasks, more help is needed -many hands make light work-

    - Next year help is needed at the very end of the day unloading unsold plants – plea from Kathy Regan

    GIFT WRAP FUND RAISER – Linda German for Cheryl Wainwright

    - Catalogues available at the meeting – great quality – WCG gets 50% of proceeds

    - Can call Cheryl with your order, to be delivered at the November meeting

    GARDEN TOUR – Linda German

    - Need a committee and gardens to show and a year to prepare

    - The last Tour was June 30, 2001

    CIVIC COMMITTEE – Lisa Errede

    - Thanked everyone who helped water in and around town this summer

    FIELD TRIP TO TIFFANY GARDENS in LONDONDERRY – Linda German

    - 29 WGC members toured this homeowners’ gardens in August– they were spectacular

    - Linda said – read your emails, you missed a great tour

    - She is going to allow us to dig + separate some of her plants for our Plant Sale-lucky us!

    RAIL TRAIL ALLIANCE – Margaret Crisler

    - Raising money to fix up Depot area – see Margaret for Raffle Tickets

    - They received a $200k grant to cover part of the renovations

    SPRAYING OF PUBLIC FIELDS AND PARKS IN TOWN –

    - Nicole was concerned about what was being used on lawns, ball parks + Griffin Park

    - and also if there should be some education of the public re: organic products

    - Margaret said the town was using organic products and has the MSDS sheets on them

  4. NEXT MEETING INFO / TO DOs

    Oct meeting will be open to the public,

    Guests $3, No charge for Members, but must notify Josie if attending

    Bring Questions + any problem plants in a ZIP-LOC bag for diagnosis

    Let Robin know if you can bring food since the meeting will be open to the public
