WINDHAM GARDEN CLUB

MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

Nov. 19, 2009

 

I.      WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm at the Windham Town Hall by President Bea Heinze

The Officers present were

The Officers excused were, Julia Salafia and  Jean Manthorne

 

The following people were welcomed:

- New member 

   -  Guests Judy Salemme, Joan Eicher and her mom Fran Sheppard, a member of the Arlington, VT garden club.  Judy has been on Conservation Hikes. Joan was invited by her neighbor Jerry Parsons.

III.   EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORTS

 

1st VICE PRESIDENT-PROGRAMS:

 

2ND VICE PRESIDENT- YEARBOOK + WEBSITE:

 

TREASURER:  Reported by Bea Heinze for Jean Manthorne.

1.   Financial Statements posted.

2.   A new Corporate Resolution has been filed at Citizens Bank for the new Board Of Directors.  Beatrice Heinze and Jean Manthorne are the official signatures.

3.   At the October Executive Board Meeting, it was decided to earn more interest income by placing the Emergency Operating Fund into a short term CD.  That was done.

PRESIDENT:

A.    Cookie Santerre has a new granddaughter “Ella” in England, congratulations!

B.    Signs- Laura Scott, Planning Dept. has asked the WGC to register our signs that would be posted and a timetable.  There is a fee associated, but will be waived for non-profit groups like WGC.

C.    Lilac Letters – were electronically sent 11/8/09, as of 11/19/09 13 members had successfully downloaded the newsletter.  Reminder to all members, please be sure that Julia Salafia and Su Bennett have your most current email address.

D.    Ford Flowers will be having an open house this weekend, Nov. 21-22, 2009.  Bert Ford is an honorary member of the WGC.

 

 

IV.   MOTIONS – 2010 Budget  

MOTION: Bea Heinze motioned to adopt the 2010 Budget that was posted at October Mtg.  Similar to last year, with additions for 20th Anniversary, NHFGC Flower Show, and  Website Software.

MOVED:  Pam Friend

            SECONDED:  Vic Harmon

                        IN FAVOR:  All

                        OPPOSED: None

                                    CARRIED Yes

 

 

V.    OPEN TO THE FLOOR

STANDING COMMITTEES:

 

CIVIC IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE – Nesmith Library, Plant It Pink (NGC) project is underway.

            -

CONSERVATION COMMITTEE – Siri Wilbur has completed the 6 Planned “Our Town” walks, plus 3 additional  walks for a total of 9..  The tenth walk will be Saturday 12/5/09 at the Cyr property.

 

HORTICULTURE COMMITTEE WORKSHOPS –  Shirlee Dallas, Cookie Santerre, Josie Cappiello, Jill Martin,  completed Scarecrows and Clay Pot Figures.   Photo of scarecrow to raffle off for charity.

 

JR GARDEN CLUB – Julia submitted written notes:  November meeting; topic is medicinal plants, will be held at Nesmith Library. 

 

 

MEMBERSHIP – Su Bennett, thanks for the decorations at Griffin Park Harvest Fest.  We had 60 children painting the free pumpkins in 1 hour!   Many parents looked at the WGC Scrapbooks.

 

NOMINATING COMMITTEE –

 

 

PLANT SALE COMMITTEE – All perennial digs are completed for 2009.  We have over 300 plants to winter over at Shirlee’s house, and an ample supply of recycled pots on hand for the spring.

            - 

 

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE –  Linda German was able to attend this meeting as she recovers from her broken hip, and she is well and able to continue her good work on publicity.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE – Grace Marad  - Applications for 2010 awards were distributed.

 

SPECIAL COMMITTEES/EVENTS:

 

ANNIVESARY PARTY COMMITTEE – Met on Oct. 31st  at Jerry Parson’s house.  50% of Surveys were completed, and majority decisions were honored.  It will be a garden party on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Jerry’s house, 2-5pm. No tickets.   WGC members bring finger foods: will be served from “stations” and hostesses, lots of memorabilia, the most elegant party we can with a $500  budget.  Su Bennett has 200 names for guest list.  Wanda Desaulniers, NHFGC District IV Rep will attend.  Cookie Santerre, Robin Heider, chairpersons.  There will be punch, and byob (no red wine please).

 

ART in BLOOM – Jerry Parsons and Su Bennett, April 24-26th, 2010 at Boston Museum of Fine Art.

 

ARTHUR BAKER COMMUNITY INVESTMENT GRANT -  no requests to report

 

CLUB HISTORY/ SCRAPBOOK – NER Workshop in Bow, NH on 11/4/09, for Scrapbook, Publicity Press Book, Books of Evidence, with requirements for NHFGC Awards, and tips for good scores.

Attendance: Bea Heinze, Sam Dubreuil, Victor and Glenice Harmon, and Denise Sarnie.

 

 

DAFFODIL DAYS – March 15-21, 2010, Solicitation to WGC from ACS forwarded to Joanne Ago.

 

FIELD TRIPS -   

 

FUND RAISER: GIFT WRAP – Kim Cummings had the most sales and Jill Martin had highest sales, congratulations and a big thank-you from the club!  “Innisbrook” was the supplier.

NH FLOWER SHOW – Evie Saad and Bea Heinze will be coordinating WGC effort.  Three more signed on tonight:  Su Bennett, Cheryl Wainwright, and Jerry Parsons.  Aug.19-21, 2010, Concord.

 

            Openings still exist for Boston Flower Show/World Trade Center/March 24-29, 2010 and for

            Petals to Paint/ East Colony Fine Art/ Manchester, NH/ April 29-30, 2010.  Volunteers welcome.

VI.   BREAK and REFRESHMENTS - HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE

THIS MONTH’S THEME – Pumpkin!  Two different and delicious pumpkin breads and a pumpkin dip with cinnamon pita chips were served along with other assorted delectables!

VII. PROGRAM

Design Lecture by Gay Mondello of Taylor Made Florist, Windham, and hands on workshop to create “Fall Harvest Bouquets Centerpiece for the Holidays”.
