WINDHAM GARDEN CLUB

MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

May 14, 2009

 

I.      WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm at the Windham Town Hall by President Jill Martin

The Officers present were

               President          Jill Martin                                 

               2nd Vice-Pres     Julia Salafia - Yearbook + Website

                                           Rhonda Peckham - Membership

               Treasurer           Jean Manthorne

               Secretary           Su Bennett

 

The Officer excused was 1st  Vice-Pres, Denise Sarnie.

 

Credentials- Members in attendance:   25   Total membership:  47   which is  53 %     

 

II.    PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

 

III.   EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORTS

 

1st VICE PRESIDENT-PROGRAMS: Excused

 

2ND VICE PRESIDENT- YEARBOOK + WEBSITE: No report

    

TREASURER:  Financial Statements posted

 

SECRETARY:  Prior meeting Minutes posted on the WGC website + on the bulletin board

 

PRESIDENT:

- Memberships will be done earlier this year at May + June Meetings - Goal: all done by July

- Club Annual Award nominations due to Jill before the Summer Solstice Gourmet Potluck Meeting

- NHFGC Annual Meeting – Wed, May 27 at Atkinson Country Club – Jill has sign up sheet

- Rosemary Pothier has been ill + under a Dr’s care – she would love emails or a card 

 

IV.   OPEN TO THE FLOOR

 

STANDING COMMITTEES:

CIVIC IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE – Bea Heinze + Janet Swanson

            - Need help to plant at the Cemetery Flagpole + Island on Lowell Rd for Memorial Day Ceremony

- Meet at 1pm, Thur, May 21st  at Cemetery on the Plain

- Josie will get lots of flags

 

HORTICULTURE COMMITTEE – Josie Cappiello + Jill Martin

      - Container Garden Workshop – Sunday, May 31, 1 pm at Josie’s

 

JR GARDEN CLUB –

- Made $470 selling plants at Transfer Station the day before Mother’s Day – CONGRATS !

 

NOMINATING COMMITTEE – Linda German

Proposed Slate of Officers for 2009-2011:

            President               Bea Heinze                          

               1st  Vice-Pres          Denise Sarnie - Programs

               2nd Vice-Pres          Julia Salafia - Yearbook + Website

Treasurer                Jean Manthorne

               Secretary               Su Bennett

            Member at Large   Jill Martin

 

As immediate past Pres, Jill is automatically on the Executive Board

MOTIONS

   MOTION: Need waivers for Jean + Su to serve more than 2 consecutive terms

MOVED:  Mim Stoltz

                        SECONDED: Victor Harmon

                                    IN FAVOR: All

                                    OPPOSED: None

                                                CARRIED

 

MOTION: Rhonda + Su have talked + would like to swap positions, Rhonda is willing to be

  Secretary + Su would be Membership Chairman, eliminating her number of terms issue

MOVED:  Victor Harmon

                        SECONDED: Mim Stoltz

                                    IN FAVOR: All

                                    OPPOSED: None

                                                CARRIED

PLANT SALE COMMITTEE –

            -  Sign up sheets on table-if you don’t choose what you want to do, Jill will assign you!

            -  Reminder: on Saturday, bring box tops/trays for people to carry their plant away in

- Wagons needed

- You can bring goodies to share, Robin will get the coffee + water

- RAFFLE- Linda German

            - Sales are going well – Mim is the top seller with 15 books sold so far – Congrats!

- Leftover plants will be donated to the Manchester Animal Shelter for their Plant Sale

 

POT RECYCLING – Josie Cappiello

-  Still need more help on Thur am, Jun 4 and Sat, Jun 13

 

SPECIAL COMMITTEES/EVENTS:

 

SUMMER SOLSTICE -

-  Remember to bring a list of the ingredients in your dish, in case someone is allergic

 

ARTHUR BAKER COMMUNITY INVESTMENT GRANT – Linda German

-  Two applications have been received and are being reviewed

YEARBOOK - Holly requested inclusion of date Member joined – Julia agreed to include this info

 

 

V.    BREAK and REFRESHMENTS - HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE

THIS MONTH’S THEME – Plant Sale – very creative!!!

     The goodies were provided by Bea Heinze, Mim Stoltz and Linda Smigliani

 

VI.   PROGRAM

None this month, just Plant Sale planning
