WINDHAM GARDEN CLUB

MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

MAY 18, 2006

  1. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS

    The meeting was called to order at 7:45 pm at the Windham Town Hall by President Jill Martin.

    The Officers present were

    President Jill Martin

    1st Vice-Pres Josie Cappiello

    2nd Vice-Pres Rhonda Peckham

    Secretary Su Bennett

    The Officer excused was Treasurer, Jean Manthorne

    There were no guests at this meeting

    SECRETARY: Prior meeting Minutes posted on the website + on the bulletin board

    PRESIDENT:

    NHFGC Annual Meeting – WGC Teapot Centerpieces were a big hit – theme was Tea for Two

    PLEASE give nominations for Awards to Jill – Golden Trowel + Rookie of the Year

    Descriptions are in the Handbook

     

  4. OPEN TO THE FLOOR

HORTICULTURE COMMITTEE – Shirlee Dallas

- "Fill, Thrill + Spill" container workshop Sunday June 4 at Josie’s house – open to all club members

- Bring 10 annual plants to share, container of your choice

- Hortic Comm will provide dirt, advice, fun, + some surprises

ARTHUR BAKER COMMUNITY INVESTMENT GRANT – Linda German

    • Award of $1,020 went to the Windham Kindergarten Co-op for their Summer Gardening Camp
    • For supplies and scholarships
    • They teach the young children how to grow plants from seeds, recycling, conservation, to wear sunscreen + sun visors + to wash their hands a lot !

ART IN BLOOM – Densie Sarnie + Evie Saad

- they received many compliments on their arrangement accompanying an Egyptian Granite Sculpture

PLANT SALE –

    • RAFFLE- the leading sellers of tickets so far are Grace, Margaret, and Mim
    • SIGN-UP SHEETS + SCHEDULING FOR DAY OF SALE TASKS
    • Tents + tables are rented and will arrive at 7, plants can start arriving at 7:30 am

NOTE:

    • Due to the rain/flooding in So NH, the Plant Sale was held in the Town Hall Parking Lot instead, most everyone liked it better at this new location

 

  1. QUESTIONS and ANSWERS and INFO TO SHARE

    - CONGRATULATIONS !! Nicole Nichols had a baby girl, Elaina (I hope I’ve spelled it correctly)

    - Robert Gilmore’s Garden in Goffstown will be open for tours on the 1st weekend in June

    - will send info to Julia to send out to everyone

    - Compost available at old Town Dump on Marblehead Road

    - Open the 2nd + 4th Saturday of the month 8am-4pm - bring your own containers

    - Can bring grass clippings to drop off

    - Any left over veggie or herb plants from the Plant sale will be given to the Fire Dept who will plant them in their garden + give the "fruits of their labor" to the Shepard’s Pantry. I’m sure they will also accept any additional veggie plants anyone may want to donate – in the next few weeks, of course.

     

  2. NEXT EVENTS

    SUMMER SOLSTICE GOURMET POTLUCK DINNER + AWARDS

    - Searles School – June 15 - bring your own cocktails starts at 6 pm

    - Sign up with Robin for what dish you are bringing

    - Also bring a card listing the ingredients to place next to it

    POT RECYCLING

    - Sat, June 10 8 am-2 pm at the Transfer Station – sign up with Josie to help

     

     

     

  3. REFRESHMENTS and BREAK

Many thanks for the VERY appropriately themed Refreshment table – Rainboots and all

 

 

  1. PROGRAM

No program – just lots of final planning for the Plant Sale on Saturday
