WINDHAM GARDEN CLUB MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING JUNE 25, 2009
I. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
The SUMMER SOLSTICE GOURMET POTLUCK DINNER MEETING was called to order at 7 pm at the Searles Chapel by President Jill Martin
The Officers present were President Jill Martin 1st Vice-Pres Denise Sarnie - Programs 2 nd Vice-Pres Julia Salafia - Yearbook + Website Treasurer Jean Manthorne Secretary Su Bennett
Scholarship recipients, family + close friends of members were warmly welcomed.

III. ANNOUNCEMENTS – Jill Martin
- NHFGC AWARDS: WGC Club History + Scrapbook both received Honorable Mention - NHFGC: Statewide High School Essay Contest, Jill is NH State Chairperson; NH winning essays will be submitted to the National Competition - NHFGC: please save your Campbell’s Product Labels and bring to any meeting - WGC Annual Plant Sale grossed a total of approx $ 8k - $ 7.2k in plants + $800 from the Raffle
IV. PRESENTATION OF ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS
THREE NANCY SURETTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS THIS YEAR ONE FOR $2,000 AND TWO FOR $1,000 EACH - Presented by Grace Marad, Committee Chair Grace remarked, “These three finalists were so outstanding we knew we had to honor each of them.”
STEPHANIE PETRILLO - $1,000 Stephanie is a 2009 Salem High School graduate. At Salem, her studies included Advanced Placement Biology and Honors Anatomy and Physiology and she graduated with a GPA of 3.62. She also took part in the Health Science and Technology program for two years and was an active member of Health Occupations Students of America. She recently completed a four-month clinical rotation in two private medical practices, including doing case workups. September will see her with a Biology major at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). Congratulations !
JOHN BURKE $1,000 John is a 2009 graduate of Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua. Maintaining a 3.87 GPA, including Advance Placement courses in biology and chemistry, he won the High School Male Athletic/Academic Award for “excellence in athletics and academics while demonstrating outstanding school and community spirit and leadership.” A Granite State Youth soccer referee in Windham since 2004, he earned varsity letters in both soccer and wrestling. Entering the University of Connecticut in the Fall, he will major in biomedical engineering.. Congratulations !
DUSTIN SCIACCA - $2,000 This scholarship honors Dustin’s 3.83 GPA after two years at Keene State as an Environmental Sciences major. His curriculum includes policy, resource management, biology, ecology, geology and geography, with a goal of a career in environmental management and conservation. He has spent summers interning with the Town of Windham Planning and Development Department, sampling and testing stormwater outfalls into town brooks, streams, and ponds and looking for bacteria and water conductivity and for signs of failing septic systems. Congratulations !

MOTION: To accept the proposed slate of officers for 2009-2011 MOVED: Margaret Crisler SECONDED: Gail Salcito IN FAVOR: All OPPOSED: None CARRIED
VI. ACCEPTANCE AND REMARKS BY INCOMING PRESIDENT – Bea Heinze
Looking forward to being President - The theme for the upcoming year will be “Our Town, Our Home” - There will be a Statewide Flower Show which we will be able to participate in - Hopefully we will also participate in the National “Plant it Pink” Project to support breast cancer

Tasty appetizers, delectable entrees, and yummy desserts were enjoyed by all.
