WINDHAM GARDEN CLUB MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING JUNE 21, 2007 The SUMMER SOLSTICE GOURMET POTLUCK DINNER MEETING was called to order at 6:35 pm at the Searles Chapel by President Jill Martin The Officers present were President Jill Martin 1st Vice-Pres Josie Cappiello Treasurer Jean Manthorne Secretary Su BennettJr Garden Club President Kathryn Martin The Officer excused was 2nd Vice Pres, Rhonda Peckham. Scholarship recipients, family + close friends of members were warmly welcomed. - Scrapbook/History Meetings: 2nd Tues of the month at 6:30pm at Sam Dubreuil’s home - Application for 2007-8 membership is online; please print + send dues to Jean Manthorne - Conservation Committee donated 2 books to the Nesmith Library – Joan Szoke "Invasive Plants" and Native Alternatives to Invasive Plants" both published by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden AWARDS TO JUNIOR GARDEN CLUB Many compliments were given at the Plant Sale for our newest members + their very successful table - Shelby Dubreuil – Gift Certificate to Staples - Andrea Howard – Gift Certificate to Staples - Cassandra Salafia – Gift Certificate to Staples ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - Cheryl Cravino – Book "Complete Hydrangeas" CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION - Joanne Ago – for 12+ years chairing Daffodil Days and raising more than $65,000 - Kathy Regan – for tirelessly transporting the endless plants to and from the Plant Sale A quiet, very dependable + important volunteer - Julia Salafia – for keeping everyone in touch via emails and the WGC Website - Cookie Santerre – someone who is everywhere, she is an idea person, a catalyst GOLDEN TROWEL - Jill Martin - for many, many years of volunteering – as the President and running the Plant Sale This came as a surprise to Jill because the Executive Board secretly planned to Award the Golden Trowel to Jill without her knowledge TWO NANCY SURETTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS OF $2,000 EACH - Presented by Grace Marad, Committee Chair NATALIE DELFOSSE Natalie is a Windham resident and a 2005 Salem High School graduate. She is a Biology major entering her sophomore year at UNH. She was a member of the National Honor Society in her Senior year and held 2 internships with local physical therapists. Her community service included fund raisers for various events including the Dollars for Scholars Phone-a-thon. She was the primary coordinator for a walk for cancer that she + her family organized for a family friend in which they raised $20,000. She was a volunteer for activities in the medical field during her high school years. In April 2007, she was the co-captain for a team for the "Relay for Life" walk held at UNH. Last semester her GPA was 3.91 and this semester she attained a 4.0. Three of her professors submitted recommendations which were noteworthy. Congratulations ! MARYKATE CONBOY MaryKate is a Windham resident, a 2007 Central Catholic School graduate and Valedictorian of her class. She will be entering Notre Dame this fall as a Biology major. She maintained a 4.5 GPA at Central Catholic as a "result of her diligence and perseverance" (quote from one of her professors). She is a National Merit Scholar, President of the National Honor Society, and editor of the school newspaper. She took many advanced Placement + Honors classes while in high school. She plays an active role in her community by volunteering for the American Red Cross and at Lawrence General Hospital, and tutoring middle school students in math. All 3 recommendations from her professors were outstanding. One professor noted "MaryKate has taken the most rigorous and challenging curriculum available to a Central Catholic student" and "she is both humble and kind." Congratulations !

Tasty appetizers, delectable entrees, and yummy desserts were enjoyed by all. - and the lucky person whose birthday was closest to today could take it home!!
