WINDHAM GARDEN CLUB

MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

April 15, 2010

 

I.      WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm at the Windham Town Hall by President Bea Heinze

The Officers present were

               President          Bea Heinze

               1st Vice-Pres      Denise Sarnie - Programs

               2nd Vice-Pres    

Treasurer           Jean Manthorne

               Secretary         

 

The Officers excused were, Rhonda Peckham and Julia Salafia

 

The following people were welcomed:

- New member  Claudia Trombly

   -  Guests Olivia Cappiello, Jr. Garden Club Member

Credentials- Members in attendance:  28     Total memberships: 56 %      Guests: 1

PRESIDENT:  Bea announced she was happy to be back and took the time to thank the board and general membership for carrying on in her absence.

V.    OPEN TO THE FLOOR

STANDING COMMITTEES:

Civic Committee – Janet Swanson and Roberta White will be organizing a spring clean up around town, so check emails if you would like to volunteer to help out.

 

 

CONSERVATION COMMITTEE – Earth Day, bring recycled birdhouses to Nesmith Library for display.

 

 

HORTICULTURE COMMITTEE  – See Jill or bring to next meeting gardening goodies for the raffle basket.

 

 

JR GARDEN CLUB – Plant sale will be May 8th at the Transfer Station.

 

 

PLANT SALE COMMITTEE – See Linda German if you need more raffle tickets.  Sign-up sheets on table or let Jill know.

 

 

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE – Glenice and Victor Harmon submitted the 2009 Publicity Book in Jan., need volunteers for next year’s book.

-

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE – Grace Marad reported that application process is now closed.  She has 9 applicants all from Windham, which is very unusual.

 

SPECIAL COMMITTEES/EVENTS:

 

ART in BLOOM – April 24-26th check MFA website for more info.  Jerry Parsons and Su Bennett will be representing WGC.  They will interpret a 17th century painting titled “Barnyard Fowl with Peacocks”, which hangs in the Rembrandt Room.

CLUB HISTORY/ SCRAPBOOK – The scrapbook and yearbook were submitted to NHFGC on time for judging, thank-you Sam Dubreuil and Julia Salafia.

 

 

DAFFODIL DAYS – Joanne Ago reported the club raised $1598.05 for Daffodil Days, thank-you to Joanne and all her committee members.

 

 

FIELD TRIPS – Garden in town on Saturday May 15th @ 2:00pm

 

 

Fall Festival – Volunteers needed to grow in their gardens mini pumpkins for kids to paint at the Fall Festival.

 

NH FLOWER SHOW – Petals To Paint 2010 will be held April 29 (noon-8pm) and April 30 (11am-5pm) at the East Colony Fine Art, 55 South Commercial St., Manchester, NH, www.EastColony.com.  Robin Heider and Gail Salcito will be interpreting a still life “Bowl of Cherries” by R. Bergstrom into an arrangement.

 

WHS Greenhouse Project- Cheri Maw is committee chair; Jerry Parsons, Margaret Crisler and Josie Cappiello are members on committee.  Margaret spoke about the joint effort with the Windham Endowment Committee to promote and sponsor the greenhouse project under the Science Dept. Additional information was reported on the project, benefits, collecting funds for project and working with UNH.  About $50,000 is needed for the project, $7,500 has been raised so far.

           

 

MEMBERS INFO TO SHARE:  Holly Hanford Oliver informed members on Earth day at Massabesic Audubon Center they will have electronic recycling.
